The world is transitioning towards a more sustainable future, with green hydrogen widely touted as a key player in achieving net-zero emissions.
In Canada, Quebec-based TES has launched an ambitious project, Projet Mauricie, to accelerate the production of green hydrogen in the province. The massive CA$4 billion investment is poised to create over 1,000 jobs during the construction phase and add more than 200 permanent, specialized jobs in the green hydrogen industry.
At its heart, the Projet Mauricie is about decarbonizing key industries that are hard to electrify. By producing 70,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, Projet Mauricie seeks to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 6 million tonnes per year. This production has the capacity to obliterate roughly 20% of Quebec’s current carbon footprint, making a massive difference in the fight against climate change.
Projet Mauricie’s goal is to develop an exclusive production of 70,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. This production will support industries, such as long-haul transportation and hard-to-abate industries in meeting their decarbonization goals. The project also aims to support Quebec’s GHG the reduction target of 37.5% by 2030. To achieve this goal, TES will construct an electrolyzer and renewable production assets.
TES also recognizes that the Projet Mauricie will require enormous amounts of energy, making it imperative that they apply renewable energy sources. To do this, they will construct a 1 GW wind and solar farm to meet their energy needs. This strategy will not only minimize reliance on the grid, but it also optimizes energy consumption.
Projet Mauricie is also expected to bring massive economic and employment development to Quebec. Over 1,000 jobs are expected to be created during the construction phase, with over 200 permanent specialized jobs in the growing industry. TES is committed to stakeholder information and consultation sessions in building social acceptability and contributing to the development of the region.
The Projet Mauricie has received significant support from government officials and ministers who’ve recognized its contribution to a cleaner and more prosperous Quebec. It’s a move in the right direction towards a sustainable future, emphasizing the potential of green energy and hydrogen.
All in all, the Projet Mauricie’s timely launch amid the increasing demand for cleaner energy sources underscores the resolve and commitment to sustainability. TES is leading the charge in Quebec and the world, positioning green hydrogen as a significant player in the energy transition.
