According to a recent article by gasworld, energy giant Saudi Aramco (Aramco) is partnering with Aspen Technology to introduce new carbon capture and utilization software featuring integrated modeling and optimization solutions.
These tools help companies determine the optimum balance between emissions and profitability.
Per the article, Aramco, the world’s largest oil producer, could produce the equivalent of 27bn tonnes of CO2 between 2018 and 2039. Aramco also announced plans last year to achieve “Net Zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions across its wholly-owned operated assets by 2050.” Their partnership with Aspen is clearly a massive step toward that goal.
Aspen’s existing solutions include Aspen Plus, which allows operators to do all of the following:
- Optimize their energy usage through modeling CO2 capture and acid gas removal.
- Calculate total CO2 emissions.
- Allow users to transform CO2 from a pollutant to a biofuel feedstock material.
